Cookie notice
Updated 17 August 2026 · Applies to idleexam.com · Australia
1. What this notice covers
Cookies are small files a site asks your browser to keep. Related technologies — local storage, session storage and the registration a browser makes when you allow notifications — do much the same job. This notice describes every kind of storage idleexam.com uses, what each one is for and how long it lasts.
2. Your choice
When you first open the site a bar appears at the bottom of the page with an Accept and a Decline button. Your answer is remembered in your browser so the bar does not reappear. Declining leaves only the storage needed to make the site work; nothing else is loaded on our instruction. You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's storage in your browser and reloading the page.
3. Categories in use
3.1 Necessary
Needed for the site to display and to remember the choice you just made. These cannot be switched off without breaking basic behaviour.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| idleexam_crumbs | Local storage | Remembers whether you accepted or declined the notice | Until you clear site storage |
| Delivery network values | Cookie | Routing, load balancing and protection against automated abuse, set by our content delivery provider | Session to twelve months |
3.2 Analytics
Used only if you accept. They tell us, in aggregate, which reviews are read and where readers stop, so we can plan the next issue. We do not use them to build a profile of an individual reader.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aggregate visit counters | Cookie or local storage | Counting page views and repeat visits without identifying you | Up to thirteen months |
3.3 Advertising and notifications
Also used only if you accept. This category covers the browser notification subscription created by OneSignal when you allow notifications, and any values set by advertising partners whose promotional units appear on the page.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| OneSignal subscription values | Local storage, service worker registration | Identifies your browser installation so a notification about a new issue can be delivered | Until you revoke the browser permission |
| Partner advertising values | Cookie | Frequency control and measurement for promotional units, set by the partner | Session to thirteen months |
4. Turning storage off
- In the browser. Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies and site storage from its privacy settings, either for all sites or for idleexam.com alone. Blocking necessary storage may make the notice bar reappear on each visit.
- Notifications. Open the site settings in your browser and set notifications for idleexam.com to blocked. The subscription is removed and no further messages can be delivered.
- Newsletter. Storage has nothing to do with the newsletter; use the unsubscribe link in any message to leave the reading list.
5. How this relates to privacy
Some of the values above count as personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) because they can be linked to a device. What we do with them, how long we hold them and who else receives them is set out in the privacy notice, together with your rights of access and correction and how to complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
6. Updates and contact
If we add or remove a tool, this notice is updated and the date at the top of the page changes with it. Questions can go to the editorial contact: desk@idleexam.com.
